Keep Your Enemies Close…

We’ve had Chloe for a while now.

She’s a weird cat. A good cat, but weird.

She doesn’t play like a cat. She doesn’t really play much at all.

She gets along with the dogs just fine, unless, of course, they sit on her tail or bounce her off the bed when she’s napping.

She likes dog food.

She Loves Bill and Mary.

She’ll come when you call her.

She hates Oreo.

Oreo tried his best to make friends with her after he realized she was going to be a permanent fixture in the house. He would coo at her, sneak up quietly, sideways, offering a game of kitty play.

She wasn’t having any of it, though.

She hisses and swats at him and walks away.

Oreo kept trying.

To no avail.

Now he just taunts her.

He hunts her. Stalks her through the house, pouncing at her, causing her to go into a full blown hissy fit, yowling at him like he’s killing her, usually in the stairwell where it echoes really LOUD!

He’ll chase her down off the food table where they eat or wait in the shadows for her to jump down and scare her, obviously taking pleasure in these attacks.

Yesterday, though, as I sat watching TV, crochet hook in hand, Oreo spotted Chloe sleeping in the chair next to me and quietly crawled up on the arm and lay down.

He was there for a few minutes before she woke up and saw him there.

I guess she was okay with it. She glared at him for a few minutes, but didn’t move at all.

Maybe someday she’ll quit being so ornery and be real friends with Oreo. In the meantime, he’s just taking what he can get.
